I was actually at that cache and helped find some of the ordance. The Marines pulled security for us along with gunners from their AAVs and our M113s as we went from place to place in the quarry. We used mine detectors to find all the buried ordance. When we first started we didn't find anything and us an the Marines all thought it was a waste of time but their Gunny just kept pushin us on and on... till we came up to this one lonely house out miles from the other homes. Jackpot! The Marines stormed the house and found 50+ rifles of all kinds. Meanwhile us Soldies went around the berms getting hit after hit with the mine detector. We found all kinds of crazy crap including AA guns and a couple missles almost as big as scuds! The Marines helped ALOT as we dug up all the weapons and helped us move it all to a centralized location were Naval EOD catergorized it. (those Marines and EOD were really cool) They estimated it was over 20,000lbs! One of the biggest ever found. We even got to call in an airstrike on the house to get rid of it! Talk about fuckin motivated. Problem was the pilot missed 3 times! We ended up blowing the house ourselves. Anyway, EOD supervised us as we primed all the weapons with C4 (minus rifles which got turned in to the ING). The blast took place at night and it was IN-fuckin-CREDIBLE. We were about 1 mile from the blast and it still rocked our worlds. We found smaller caches later on...but it was never quite the same... I'll remember that for the rest of my life.
