SGT Pietrzyk Bjoerm, a health care specialist with the 4-6 Military Transition Team, listens to a child’s breathing during a medical operation in Baghdad’s Ghazaliyah neighborhood. With the help of an interpreter, Bjoerm’s diagnosis of the Iraqi boy is that he might need his appendix removed. Medical operations are now incorporating Iraqi doctors, allowing Iraqi’s to take care of their own. Pic: SPC Jeffrey Ledesma

I was there and it's an amazing to see that being human still connects us to everyone else in this world. The medic didn't spend an entire day with the Iraqi child, but I was able to see that he honestly cared. I truly believed that the children that filed through weren't just paitients to this medic. He took the time to ask questions, he knew the child's name, it just brings to light the passion Soldiers have in this fight.
